Browsing Channels

The chat sidebar shows all channels you have access to:

  • Public channels are visible to everyone
  • Private channels only appear if you’re a member

Use the search bar at the top to find channels by name.

Creating a Channel

Only Admin users can create channels.

  1. Click the + button next to “Channels” in the chat sidebar
  2. Enter a channel name
  3. Optionally add a description
  4. Choose Public or Private
  5. Click Create

You’ll automatically be added as a member of the channel.

Direct Messages

Send private messages to one or more team members.

Starting a DM

  1. Click the + button next to “Direct Messages” in the chat sidebar
  2. Search for and select one or more users
  3. Click Create

If a DM conversation already exists with those participants, you’ll be taken to the existing one.

Group DMs

Select multiple users when creating a DM to start a group conversation.

Sending Messages

Type your message in the input area at the bottom of the chat and press Enter to send.

@Mentions

Mention a team member to get their attention:

  • Type @ followed by their name
  • Select from the dropdown
  • The mentioned user will receive a notification

Attachments

Attach files to your messages:

  1. Click the paperclip icon in the message input
  2. Select a file to upload
  3. The file will be attached to your message

Supported file types include documents, images, and other common formats.

Thread Replies

Keep conversations organized by replying in threads.

  1. Hover over a message
  2. Click the reply icon
  3. Type your reply in the thread panel
  4. Press Enter to send

Thread replies appear in a side panel and don’t clutter the main channel conversation. A reply count badge shows on the original message.

Reactions

React to messages with emoji:

  1. Hover over a message
  2. Click the smiley face icon
  3. Select an emoji

Multiple users can react with the same emoji — the count is displayed on the reaction badge. Click an existing reaction to add or remove your own.

Notifications

You’ll receive notifications when:

  • Someone @mentions you in a message
  • Someone sends a message in a DM conversation you’re part of
  • Someone replies to a thread you’re participating in

Notifications appear in the notification bell in the top navigation bar.
